In most parts of Terra Azul, an island country, there exists the Law of Trigon. This law states that any man - or woman - found guilty of crimes of murder in cold blood, shall be marked and sentenced to death.
Here is the mark:
The Latin reads: "
Timor mortis/ conturbat me,/ quilla inferno/ est redemptio". (The fear of death torments me, for in hell there is no redemption.)
In the Faith of the Holy Trinity, much like the Catholic faith, the body of the Lord is taken in the form of a bread host. The bread is recieved in the left hand.
Trigons are marked on the left shoulder to signify that they are unfit to recieve the gift. It is believed that when they are put to death and enter purgatory, they will not be allowed to shed their unholy bodies because of this sinful mark. They are sentenced to Hell.
Should a Trigon escape, they can be immediately executed on the spot by anyone who recognizes the mark.
Skye Gabriel Sands, at the age of 15, was accused of the murder of three men visiting his father's home. The boy claimed he was innocent, but there was too much evidence against him.
Earlier that year he shocked the population of the church, seeming posessed during a sermon.
He was taken to trial at the request of his father, Elijah Job Sands, but a similar fit of sorcery posessed him, rendering a vast majority of the witnesses temporarily blinded.
Elijah pleaded so that his son was branded on the
right shoulder and exiled from Terra Azul instead of sentenced to death. It was noted, however, that should he set foot on the shores of his home country again, he would be exectuted. Should anyone he encounter deem him unworthy of life -
Protection of Patern Innocencia having little or no value - they would not be committing a crime.
Finally, Skye Gabriel Sands was stripped of his name and his privledge to
Terra Divina. Meaning, should he die or be killed, his body - by law - would be left to rot. Should someone cover the body, bury it or even say prayers over it, they would be committing an act of disrespect to the Govern of Terra Azul and would be expected to pay a fine should the incident ever be discovered.
Through much argument, Elijah Sands was able to leave a great part of his wealth to his exiled son. It was then signed over to a trusted friend so that the gold could be withdrawn whenever needed.
Two years after these events, Elijah Job Sands and his wife Ana Christine left the living world after a breif suffering of mental illness and Blood Fever combined.
Skye Gabriel Sands, now Trigon, is believed to be among the living still.
