I'm having some trouble remembering a dream I had last night. I remember parts of it, and sort of, the general feeling, but I'm missing a bunch of the details. I really want to turn it into a story while staying as true to the dream as I can, but I need the details. Any tips? And does anyone else here get tons of their inspirations from dreams?

I don't really know how to recall a lost dream, except that sometimes, if I really wanted to recall it, it snaps back to me once I've given up and am in the middle of doing something else.
To get better at recalling dreams in the future:
•command your brain to remember them before you go to sleep
•this can be done in a meditative style for more impact
•make an effort to remember them every morning, and your brain will get used to that pattern, and it will get easier
•writing them down is a good avenue to do this
•interpreting helps you remember a specific dream by finding meaning, and also helps you build a pattern of remembering next time, to give yourself something to interpret

I don't have faith in dream dictionaries. I consider personal symbols for everything I dream. If they happen to coincide with the meaning in a dream dictionary, I really don't care.
I've noticed that red hair for me symbolizes power, mucky early spring symbolizes how much this world can suck, and islands can symbolize whole universes.

Yes, some dreams have inspired me.

Before you go to sleep at night, say (outloud!), "I want to remember my dreams." This is vocally commanding your brain to remember your dreams.

And first thing in the morning, after a nice dream, don't open your eyes and look at something. Keep them closed and go over the details as best you can. Get up and write them down immediately (I suggest by hand... pen and paper by your bed. Works wonders!).

But, generally, if your brain doesn't want you to know something, then it won't let you know it. Darn the little aliens up there.
