A suggestion for the search for writings criteria:

Minimum/maximum word/character count.

It'll make it easier to either find short poems or rule them out, among other things. I think it would also be helpful to add the option to order found writings by length, not just name or date posted.

That would mean having to write code for counting words.

Instead there could be a search for short poetry as a style.

That sounds good. However, a user may also like to exclude other very short works, such as single descriptions.

On another note, I understand that the code could be a good deal of work, but I do hope that that isn't your only reason not to make an improvement.

Finding out a -rough- word count for a piece of literature should be fairuly easy. Indeed, searching for the regular expression /[^\s]+/ and spitting out the number of matches found should give you a reasonable accurate count of actual words (irrespective of length). A more complex algorithm would likely be preferable, but I don't know all that much about how word counts are usually calculated, to be honest.

Certainly such a pattern match would be inefficient, but it only has to be done on edits, which is not hugely onerous.

Then would the title of that work not be 'single descriptions' ?

My point is that, there is already search technology here that we can have other titles added to. Rather than having Hedda have spend time coming up with something to search for word counts.

Perhaps a user could select a word count range too, or something along those lines.

Why would I have any other reason?

Hmm, would something like "not over # words" or "not under # words" also require a word counting code? Like, a way for the code to "glance" and say "oh yeah, this one surely has more than # of words".

Or a drop-down menu for "word count" where the writer can select one (#-##, ##-### etc...) Or even "writing lenght" drop-down menu with options like "short, medium, long"?

Just throwing ideas around. ^^;

Yes youve hit the nail on the head with the drop down menu, although i had suggested just using lenth titles. Additional titles can be added to a particular search.

Short poetry. Single descriptions. Anecdotes. Ramblings. Letters. Contemplations. 50-Word Stories. 5-Minute Mysteries. Purple prose. Short monologues. These are the types of work that I can think of offhand, but there could be a whole lot of categories that it would be easier to rule out through word counts.
