Subject: Writersco vs. Elftown

I've been a member of elftown for some time, in fact that's how I found WC, but I gave up on elftown a long time ago.
Elftown is a sad sad place to go, and despite the fact that WC has less people, it's MORE active than ET in the writing sphere. ET is pathetically inactive. Most of the writing contests are like ghost towns.
Also, it's so much easier to host a contest here on WC because of the writings system.
AND the people are a lot more friendly here at WC. I feel like a squash rolling on a busy street when I'm at ET, but on WC I can always look forward to a note here and there.
So pretty much, I'm just saying I love you all! Yay for WC!

I agree on the writings part. But I love Elftown and Writersco equally, and on ET, I have some really close friends, whereas on WC... not really. Just acquaintances.
As for the friendliness of people, I suppose the size has to do with that. It's easier to find nice people here where there are so few active members, but there are some pretty awesome folks in ET as well.

People on WC are here for a reason, nowadays people on ET are there for social networking.

Isn't social networking a valid reason to join? The whole point of ET is to meet fellow artists and lovers of fantasy and sci-fi. Of course, I admit, there are many people on Elftown who are there solely looking for friends and aren't really that interested in art or writing... but not everyone is like that.
Anyway, I was just saying... Yes, people come to WritersCo to show their writings, to get feedback, etc. But what's wrong with making some friends while you're at it? It would make the experience that much nicer.

And now for a more intelligent reply...

It's so encouraging to know that you consider WC plenty active enough to spend time in.

:P Ya...
Calann, I didn't mean that I have anything wrong with social networking and making friends, my only point in making this comment was that I love WC and I'm so grateful that there's a place where it's still pretty true to the reason it was founded. I sincerely believe that ET has become a sort of mini-myspace. To me, WC is a place where I can come and talk with other writers and see what my contemporaries are writing. I think an obvious part of talking with other writers is becoming friends with them as well, I never said I don't think people should become friends. It's just that on ET, being friends (and maybe finding a girlfriend or boyfriend and maybe having some cybersex) has become much more important than art or fantasy.

*ahem* My response may have been a wee bit too hot-headed, so sorry about that. xD
I love WritersCo, and I love Elftown, and both have their good and bad sides. 'Nuff said. :3

I do understand where you are coming from, however there is social neworking like bebo, and myspace, which people define as soley social networking. ET was designed as the community for EW, for artists to communicate.

I was just saying as I had based my research for my dissertation on it, that nowadays people come to WC for their writings first, then to make friends. I found that on ET people had come to make friends regardless if they were interested in art or not. (and then in some cases get moved to EP :P )
