Spike slowly wakes up wondering where he is and what is going on. As he slowly starts to wake up and he looks around and his memory slowly returns. When he gets up and puts on his glasses and looks around, he gets up and feeds his yellow lab Sandy. He found Sandy on the roads a few nights before, cleaned her up and keep her in his room. She jumps up on his bed. Spike walks to her and gives her food as she licks his hand.
The room is a simple square with red wallpaper on the walls that is almost completely covered with posters of his favorite pro football team, the Rockets, who have not lost a game in the last 5 years.
As Spike slowly walks to his computer after feeding his dog, he turns on the computer listening to the whirl of the fans starting up as the screen flashes on. The computer flashes to the log in screen, as he clicks his name and types in his password, he hears his brothers starting to wake up.
As Spike slips on his robe, he hears his brothers going downstairs, he opens his oak door and takes Sandy downstairs to let her outside to chase the birds. While Spike is going back upstairs, he hears his brothers turning on the family 50-inch widescreen TV. Then he gets back to his room and sits back down in front of his computer. While the computer is logging him in on Elftown, he gets dressed, puts on baggy jeans, a big t-shirt, leather jacket, and Nike shoes.
As he checks his messages on elftown most of them say:
“Hi what’s up”?
As he goes through some other messages he finds one he doesn't know who it's from and it reads:

Dear Mister Vamp,

We are glad to invite you to Rose Hill School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For the school year you will need
1. Wand
2. Caldron
3. Dragon hide gloves

And many other weird objects and books, as he skims through the pages he find the page with the date and time that the plane leaves. “The plane leaves the last Saturday in August and classes will start September 1st, please make sure you are there by then, we already have a dorm ready for you and the rest of your classmates. As Spike goes through it he starts to wonder if his parents knew about it, or even if they don’t know about it. While the copy of it is printing he goes back downstairs and gets a bowl of cereal. As he sits down at the table he hears his parents starting to wake up. Spike finishes his bowl of cereal and puts his dishes in the sink hoping that he woud not have to do the dishes later that day.
Spike heads to the garage and opens the garage door to gets his bike out. He walks it outside and closes the garage door again hoping that his parents would read the note he wrote on the white board reading: “Hey Mom and Dad, I am going to Snowi’s house; I don’t know when I will be back; I’ll call you when I get there.” He gets on his bike and starts riding to Snowi’s house. As he rides, he wonders if Snowi got the same letter that he got on Elftown. As Spike turns the corner of a street, a car comes rushing at him out of nowhere. He quickly swerves to avoid the car but it swerves the same way. Not knowing what to do, Spike braces for impact, but after a few seconds nothing happens. When he looks up, he finds himself halfway through the car looking at the driver, and the driver has a look on his face like someone just disappeared right from under his nose. Spike feels himself being jerked back into phase as the car passes completely behind him. He wonders about how he got out of phase until he gets to Snowi’s house.
Snowi’s house is an early Roman Gothic style with pointed arches. He puts his bike in the bushes out of view and runs up the steps to the door. Right as he gets to the door, it swings open to reveal Snowi standing there. Snowi is tall and slim, with flaxen hair that falls mid-way down her back. She suprises him by saying, “I saw you coming, how did you get out of phase like that, I have been trying that for years.” She says. Spike stands there dumb struck “you know about that magic, and you didn’t tell me, I never knew I could do that.” He replies. She stands there wondering how to reply, “Maybe you should come in first” she says, as she walks back in the house beckoning for Spike to follow. Spike follows wondering what in the heck is going on around here; his life was normal until he met her. As Spike follows her upstairs to her room, he sees her parents and waves hi to them.

Meanwhile…
Sephen’s wakes up and says an incantation to make his bedroom lights turn on. Sephen gets up and gets dressed wearing jeans, a red t-shirt, and a leather jacket. He doesn’t plan to wear anything fancy knowing that he will have to change later in the day for his job. Sephen walks downstairs and has some breakfast before he says an incantation and appears in front of Snowi and Spike.
Spike moves backward and falls over Snowi’s bed in surprise because Sephen appears out of nowhere. As he gets back up he stares at Sephen “How…how…how did you do that?” he asks, stuttering slightly and looking at Sephen. Snowi moves backward a little startled from Sephen appearing in front of her. “Great! now you have him all spooked! I was just about to explain everything to him; he got the letter this morning on Elftown.” She tells Sephen. Spike gets back up on Snowi’s bed and looks at both of them. “What the heck is going on here: I want to know how I went out of phase and then back into phase, and I want to know right now,” he says sternly while looking at both Snowi and Sephen.
Snowi sighs and looks at Sephen “So, do you want to tell him,” she says “or do you want me to.” “You go ahead and tell him, I am going to go get something to eat.” Sephen replies, as he walks downstairs waving to Snowi’s parents.. Spike looks at Snowi “So what is going on here,” he says. “Well, you are a wizard. That was how you got out of phase back then, and that is also why you got that letter on Elftown this morning.” She replies.
“So that is also why I can do this.” Spike says putting his hand upward and leaving the back 2 fingers down and moves his hand around in a circle red flames following his hand movements, and closes his eyes and opens then again his eyes glowing flame red. When he finches the circle and puts the cross in the middle his body is surrounded by flame, an all sides him but not burning anything it touches. As Spike closes his eyes and opens them again the flame disappears. “So that is how I can do that then.” Spike says looking at Snowi. Snowi stands there staring at , “How did you do that! That is more advanced then my parents’ magic, and even mine.” she says. “I have now idea how I can do that. I just can somehow. I don’t even know where I learned that.” he replies looking at his hands. “I don’t even know how I turned it off either.” “Well I think I know how you turned it off, remember when you bowed your head and closed your eyes slowly.” She says. “Yea I remember when I did that, hey that is how I turn it on and off it is in my body movement, like then all I did was bow my head and closed my eyes and the spell took place.” He says smiling slightly. “Now where do I get the supplies that I need for school?” Spike asks looking at Snowi.
Snowi looks at him, “follow me” she says. As Spike follows her downstairs, he looks at Snowi’s parents. He bows his head and closes his eyes and opens them back up slowly. His eyes are once again a bright red color with flames coming out. He waves to her parents with his front two fingers up and his back two fingers down. He smiles as it makes a flaming streak in the air. Snowi’s parents’ come and look at him “how did you do that” they ask in unison. “I don’t know I just can somehow” Spike replies, closing his eyes and opening then again. His eyes are once again their normal color. Spike looks around and wonders how he can do that and why it is always flames nothing else. “Um,” he says “are their different kinds like flames, water or others like it” he asks looking at Snowi’s parents. “Well there are people that their spells are always the same color or style like yours so far, but I highly doubt that you have done enough spells to see if that is true.” they reply. “Is two spells enough to tell?” he asks looks at them “I don’t know” they reply looking at him. “Ok but I got to go and get the supplies for school, um were did Sephen go?” he asks them. “He teleported back to his place” they reply. “Darn it! I need to get back to my place and get the list of things I needed.” He tells them back. “Use Snowi’s list then. There isn’t a lot of difference between them except the robes.” They tell him. “Ok but what is the difference between them, and isn’t Snowi going to be a second year.” “No she is starting her first year just like you” “Ok,” Spike replies “but how are we going to get our stuff though.” “Snowi will show you just like we showed her” Snowi’s parents reply. Spike nods and follows Snowi to the fireplace.
Spike looks at Snowi “What are we doing here?” he asks her. “Well, this is how we get our school supplies.” she answers. Spike looks at her surprised “How can a fireplace get us where we need to go?” he asks, looking at her. “Well it is basically a transporter, but I don’t know how it works though?” she says looking at the look on Spike’s face “what I need you to do, is to use you magic to light the wood in fire, to make the portal to get to the planet that we need to go to get our stuff.” Spike nods and opens his eyes again and makes the symbol in the logs and smiles as they light on fire. “Thank you, now please move out of the way” Snowi replies, gently pushing Spike out of the way. Snowi moves her hands and says some incantations and moves always as the fire comes to her and forms a portal in front of her. “Come on,” she says grabbing his arm and pulling him in through behind her the portal closing right behind him. At the other end of the portal Spike gets up off the ground and looks around at the people rushing by him getting the things that they need. Spike looks up in the air and sees two suns there and he instantly knows that they are on another planet. He looks over at Snowi “Now what do we do?”
Snowi pulls out her list and looks at it and grabs Spikes arm. “Come on, we need to get our wands” she says, pulling Spike in a wand shop. Spike looks around amazed at all the different kinds of wands. As he looks around he sees one that catches his eye and he looks at the sales person. “How much is that wand?” he asks, pointing at the wand, and pulling out his wallet with the other arm. “That one is about - What currency do you want it in?” the shopkeeper asks. “Um do you take American dollars?” Spike asks. “Yes we do. Then it will be $5 dollars,” the shopkeeper replies. Spike hands him a five and he receives the wand. Spike walks outside and sits on a bench while Snowi picks out her wand, when she comes out Spike asks her “why do we need wands if all we need to do is use our hands?” “Well I don’t know myself, but I suspect that there are some kinds of magic that we do that require wands,” she replies. “Come on, we need to get the rest of our stuff,” she says while pulling Spike up off the bench. They walk through the shops and get what they need and some other things.
When they finish their shopping, Spike looks at Snowi “um, how are we getting back?” Snowi looks at him, “The same why we got here - how else.” Spike nods and makes a fireball in his hand so Snowi can open up the portal and pull him back through it.
Spike gets up off the floor in Snowi’s house and looks at her “So now what do we do,” he asks her. “Well we wait till the last Saturday in August and then we get in a plane and leave to go to the school, which also happens to be on a different planet but luckily it is just like ours, or so I am told” she says picking up her stuff. Spike picks up his stuff and looks at her “how am I going to tell my parents that I am leaving for a school year, and then coming back, and even more going to a different planet,” he says looking at her. “ Well I think that your mom called and my mom told her everything,” she says. “Ok, then how am I going to get my stuff home,” he says “and how am I going to get this stuff to my house?” “Well just teleport it there like how we went and got our stuff,” she says. Spike nods and opens a portal to his room and pushes his stuff into it hoping that he doesn't hit anything. Spike closes the portal and looks at Snowi “now what,” he asks. “Now we wait a week and then we go get on the plane and it takes us through a portal and then we get to school, and out there a few days and then start school work,” she tells him. “Ok thanks, I should probably get going soon,” he says walking to the door. “Bye,” she says “Bye” he replies.
Spike opens the door and makes a portal to his house and rides his bike through and coming out in his garage. Spike walks in and heads up to his room to unpack his stuff and to pickup what he needs for school. As he puts his trunk in his close, his mom opens his door “so you are planning to leave for a school year and not tell us,” she says. “I was going to tell I just didn’t know how to tell you,” he says looking at his mom. “Well you could of told us that you were going to Snowi’s house,” she says. “I did tell you that I was going to her house yesterday and I also left you a message on the white board. I still have a week here before I have to leave for school,” he says lying down on his bed. “Yes true, but I have to work most of the week because we are trying to get things done at work,” she replies.
Spike looks over at his clock and see that it reads 6:38. He looks back at his mom “So what’s for dinner,” he says getting back up off his bed. “I actually haven’t started dinner,” she says. “Can we have hamburgers?” he asks looking at her. “I guess, if we have any,” she replies. Spike jumps up and runs downstairs and pulls out a bag of hamburgers and tilts his head and lifts it back up opening his eyes. He makes the symbol on the hamburgers and closes his eyes when they are cooked. “Done,” he yells out after he finishes cooking the hamburgers. His mom walks down and looks at him “how can dinner be done so quickly?” she asks. “Um my magic, that is the reason that I am going to that school, even though it is on a different planet.” He replies placing the plate with the hamburgers on the table. His mom nods and sets the table while he goes and get the rest of the family. The dinner is a quiet and short meal. Spike gets up and puts his dishes in the sink and walks up in his room and pulls out one of his book that he got earlier that day. His mom walks up and looks at him, “So what are you going to do at this school of yours,” she asks. “I honestly have no idea, what I am going to do,” he tells her. “Well try to send us email, or letter so we know how and what you’re doing,” she says as she walks to her room. Spike sighs and keeps reading doing the hand movements as he reads.
The week passes very quickly and Spike stays up in his room reading his books. He and his mom don’t talk a lot and when they do talk it is always short and to the point. Spike wakes up on the day that he leaves; he gets up and jumps out the bed excited and ready for the day. He puts on a red t-shirt and some jeans and a leather jacket. He walks to his closet and pulls out his trunk and other school stuff. He puts all his stuff in his trunk and closes it locking the latches. He picks up one of the ends and carries it downstairs trying not to put dents in the wall. Spike places his trunk next to the door and wonders how he is going to get there, he cant go with Snowi because they got in a fight the day before. He could make a portal but then he has to worry about someone following him. He gets back on his computer and looks at the message he got for about the hundredth time that week. He looks at it and sighs finding nothing on about how he is going to get there. He checks his messages and finds one from the exact same person that sent him the first one about his magic powers. He looks over it and it tells him that he should make a portal to get there, it also says that if something follows him that they can teleport it back home. Spike smiles and shuts down his computer and grabs his laptop hoping that it will work where he is going. He packs it up and sticks it in his truck and checks his list making sure that he has everything. When he is sure that he has every thing, he writes a letter and places it on the table hoping that his mom gets it. He opens a portal and walks onto the platform and looks around and looks around at all the other portals opening and closing. He walks forward and looks at the plane, it sides shinning in the sunlight. As he walks to the plane he hears his cell phone ringing. He pulls it out of his pocket and flips it open “hello” he says. “Hi,” and he hears that it is his mother. “Mom my plane leaves in 5 minuets,” he says walking to the plane. “Well then I will make it quick, just remember that I care about you and I want you to come back safely,” she say “and also remember that I love you.” “I love you to mom,” Spike says as he hangs up the phone and gets on the plane right as it starts to gets ready to take off.
