I had a wish
once.
So silly now,
it all seems like it was
useless.
Perhaps it was.

I had a wish
once.

I named it a feather
and blew it to the sky,
blue,
so blue.
I watched it drift away
on the breeze.
I watched it burn
in the sun.
I watched it drown
In the sea.
I had a wish
once,
and I forgot all about it.

Until
now.

I pick up a feather
from the ground,
black,
like ink,
like night and soot,
like death and promise,
black.
I pick up this wish
and wonder
if the magic is the same.

2007-04-23 Annie: I absolutely love this poem!! It's so true about life and the way we give up on things or forget things...They get trampled and destroyed. Excellent imagery bringing reality to life in a new way.
