Description:: Ian is a tall, lean, somewhat spirited young man that always seems to be smiling. Typically seen wearing a set of loose sweats of a neutral tone and a shirt to match, he was never truly seen as a threat before his mutation. Now, Ian's once soft, delicate hazel eyes have been transformed into swirling infernos of fire red and midnight black. His skin, tanned and smooth, has become unnaturally hard and has been known to alter tones and hue at random to nearly any color that human skin can reach. He still has gorgeously cut hair that accents his eyes, but instead of being a match for the raven, every strand is now aligned with the purest of doves. He no longer requires shoes and, therefore, doesn't wear them. Mutation hasn't destroyed Ian's smile, but it did quite the number on the rest of his appearance.
Mutation:: Ian has been altered in a unique fashion in that his mutation gave him a variety of benefits and side-effects, each of which comes and goes as it pleases. Besides the obvious color change and the added strength of his skin, Ian's eyes have been granted vision that far surpasses any known creatures, giving him perfect eyesight, even in absolute darkness and blinding light. However, his eyesight will also randomly shut down completely, leaving him totally blinded for unknown periods of time. His body radiates energy when it changes to certain hues (mostly only in the lightest ones like 'vampire pale' and 'gamer white', but when he is his 'before' skin tone he also seems to, for whatever reason) giving him the ability to recharge small batteries or power things for a short while, although it is extremely draining if he forces it. While his skin is tougher, it also occasionally hardens itself to a point where bending his limbs is no longer possible and he is forced to stay still for a period of time until his body softens again. Surprisingly, his immune system has also developed to be resistant to nearly all forms of disease, virus and infection, but in consequence it seems to have taken from his ability to heal wounds, making any cuts he does happen to suffer last for significantly longer periods of time than normal.
History:: Having spent the majority of his life unmutated, Ian found himself in envy of some of his friends who enjoyed multiple benefits from their transformations. However, the threat of turning into one of 'the cursed' had always kept him from allowing the government to alter his DNA, making him a bit of a loner amongst the world at the time. Eventually, around 9 years back, he finally decided to undergo an experimental brand of mutation genes that his parents allowed and helped him to obtain through their many connections. His parents weren't rich, by any means, but they had decided that if their son was to change, it was going to be unlike any other they had seen.
After the experiment, no visible changes were immediately apparent in Ian's body, and the scientists who had operated couldn't figure out exactly why. Regarding it as a failure on their part, the scientist's went back to work on the strain and Ian returned to his life, significantly dissapointed. Over the next few months of his life, Ian started to notice certain small changes in his life. Advanced eyesight and more physical strength, but figured it was only due to his diet changes.
One morning, of course, he realized what it was. As he got out of bed and pulled on his clothes, he opened his eyes to realize that his skin was no longer tanned, but pitch black. Shocked at first, Ian took the change in stride and proudly showed the change to his parents, who also pointed out that his eyes were getting darker. They decided against informing the scintists, but continued life as normally as possible... until The Mask took control, that is.
His parents were safe, their mutations were slight and easily hidden, but Ian was quite obviously not so. They sent him away from their home, knowing that anyone as well known as their family would be investigated immediately, and Ian went to live with very distant relatives in a more remote part of state. Since then, he had slowly been figuring out everything that his new body is capable of in hopes of someday fighting back against this new 'government' and seeing his parents again.
Personality:: Always the carefree sort of child, Ian grew up not having to worry about much in the ways of security or stability, and he stays that way even though his world is now distacted by having neither. He likes to smile and chat with anyone who'll talk to him, completely ignoring his mutation as a reason for embaressment. According to Ian, he is who he is and likes it that way. He's a naturally born leader, and not afraid to stand up for his beliefs. Only one thing ever gets him down at all, and that's the chance that he won't get to see his parents again. Knowing that, Ian makes a habit of not thinking of it and, instead, pushes forward to better himself and others.
