Thank U by Alanis Morissette (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/alanismorissette/thanku.html )

There are some songs that are appreciated far and wide for their universal nature - Thank U by Alanis Morissette is not such a song. For the longest time, to me this song was just about thanking a bunch of random things. Alanis Morissette has the ability to be very complicated and far-fetched; she has written music about a huge variety of subjects, with the only thing binding them together is her peculiar voice. Her lyrics are often about very touchy or adult matters, so it is no surprise that this song only opened to me recently - after enough experience and mentally growing up.

Like with so many of her songs, I think of my own romantic relationship when listening to Thank U, especially the second verse:
How bout me not blaming you for everything?
How bout me enjoying the moment for once?
How bout how good it feels to finally forgive you?
How bout grieving it all one at a time?
The verse makes me lean back and think: yes, how about I stop blaming him, start enjoying moments as they come - with or without him - what if I actually forgive him, give up this grudge, let go of the pain that I've earned over the course of this relationship? How about I just grieve it and get over it?

The song really speaks to me, since I do cling to what I have, I do pity myself sometimes, and I definitely blame other people for what happens to me - surely I'm not the only one who does so? Yet the words do help me stop and think that perhaps it's time to turn down the anxiety, to relax a little.

I seem to find great hope and tranquility in this song, although it still hasn't opened itself fully to me - maybe after a few years I'll know why I should thank India. :)
