I am going to be writing a play soon that will be performed next weekend.

I am planning to write it about the new crazy in airport security.

I was wondering if any of you had personal stories of things you experienced with airport security that you wouldn't mind sharing.

Thanks!

I've been lucky enough to never have problems at that, although I fly quite frequently, but did you read about J. K. Rowling's trouble with them?

not exactly a horror story BUT! nontheless.

my family was headed somewhere far far away, can't remember where, for a vacation. it was right after the new tough security stuff had been put in place, so it was probably relatively soon after 9/11. we got to the airport about an hour and a half early, which had been plenty before. we ended up getting pulled out of the security line for one of those random searches they've got now. they went through our baggage.i don't know if that's ever happened to you, but it's not a nice feeling seeing strangers pawing through all of your stuff.

second horror story.

due to complications in security, when transferring flights in atlanta, georgia, our plane was not allowed to land for almost an hour. the airport in atlanta is weird, there's five separate terminals with an underground trolley system connecting them. we ended up being redirected to a docking place in terminal five. our next flight was out of terminal one. my dad had something wrong with his leg (it was a broken knee, but we didn't know that yet) we got there five minutes before it left. however, due to "security" they wouldn't let us on. we missed the flight and had to wait two hours for the next one. and they didn't even give us free tickets! they said it was our fault! needless to say, we never again flew that airline. i believe it was continental.

I don't know how to verify this, as I heard it on the radio several years ago, and long before 911.

The band Garbage ran into trouble bringing their instruments into Russia (whether it was via plane, I don't know). At that time, Russia had (has?) a law that one could not import trash across the border (to help keep their dumps from getting overcrowded, I suppose). Of course, Garbage's instruments were clearly labelled, Garbage. Security officials were insulted that the group had so little faith in their English, that they expected the packages to go through. Things did eventually get cleared up, though.

I once flew into Dallas from Narita (Tokyo) with a Japanese friend. They held her at security for nearly an hour. They couldn't understand why she wouldn't just answer their simple questions. I mean they had a translater and everything! Was she perhaps a terrorist in cognito? Of course once they realized that Tokyo wasn't in Mexico and actually called a Japanese translator things went much more smoothly. The translator they had been using spoke Spanish.
