2007-05-19 [Mister Saint]: Alright... how to start? What I'm expecting her is a very low level of participation, but if that's the case we can be more inclusive and take less critique jobs at a time. If there are any thoughts or plans for this, by all means, let me know.
2007-05-19 [Eleanor]: It would seem to me that one way to attract clientele would be to leave links to this page in comments on actual writings that we deem worth dressing up for publication purposes. After all, I gather your original plan for this wasn't to just improve the base level of writing of members in general, but to target those who are really intent on sending their work on to actual pulishers. To that end, we could always start with each other. You show me yours, I'll show you mine.
2007-05-20 [Mister Saint]: I see! That does sound like the way to go. Let's see... I'll hunt through my pieces, find one, and go ahead and submit it up here as well. We'll just lead by example.
2007-05-20 [Eleanor]: How shall we conduct the critiques: in the comments section of this page, or on a separate wiki created for that purpose?
2007-05-20 [Mister Saint]: Let's go with a wikipage. If we do it on this page, we're liable to have comments disappear over time, or get too convoluted with different stories' comments. We'll use the format [Storyshop-story name@wiki]. Sound good?
2007-05-20 [Eleanor]: Sounds good to me.
2007-05-20 [Mister Saint]: Hmm... I think, since for time's sake we'll need to keep these chunks pretty short, we might do sectionals? Something like... the first time we might do a story's opening, the second time we might do a certain kind of scene, or something?
2007-05-21 [Eleanor]: I have downloaded and printed out the piece you uploaded, and it seems quite short and manageable to me. I’ll get back to you soon after I’ve had a chance to read and “red pencil” it.
2007-05-21 [Mister Saint]: hee... awesome. Shoot me one in return, then?
2007-05-22 [Calann]: Hmmm, interesting. *haunts*
I won't be submitting anything, because unless I move to Britain or North America, I won't be getting any of my English text officially published either way - or, at the very least, it would be darned much more difficult.
2007-05-23 [Mister Saint]: It makes sense. Well, you're certainly welcome here, anyway!
2007-05-24 [Mister Saint]: I'm working on the review. ^^ It's been a while since I've given a serious one, so I'm hoping to shake off the rust so it'll be useful. ^^
2007-05-24 [Annie]: Hello Mistah Saint, any rules on becoming a participant here? I didn't see any on this page, but I also didn't see a link to any rules. Other than the basic rules of conduct obviously.
2007-05-24 [Mister Saint]: Um... well, there really isn't a rules page this time. Just adhering to the guidelines above. There might be one later, but I didn't feel like making a big elaborate wikipage this time. *nods*
2007-05-25 [Mister Saint]: Review's up! Hope it helps.
2007-05-25 [Annie]: Mm, ok. I'd like to join, so do I just put my name up under participants and then review what's already here?
2007-05-25 [Mister Saint]: Sure. What I'd like to do eventually is 'everybody reviews one piece at a time' format, but until we get a few more members we can just all review 'em all.
2007-05-25 [Mister Saint]: What does everyone think about having multiple reviewers on one wikipage? I can fix up a table of contents for each one where you can click down to each reviewer's section, if it's useful to do it that way. ^^
2007-05-25 [Mister Saint]: Also, I'm thinking about another thingy. Wouldn't it be kinda cool to each have workshop specific buttons or badges or whatever? Like a star that says "reviewed by Annie" or some such, that we could slap on our writings pages and the review pages? Maybe if those start popping up, we can get more attention here?
2007-05-25 [Eleanor]: It's a thought.
2007-05-26 [Annie]: Ya that sounds like a cool idea. ^_^ It sounds fun and fills me with swirly girly loverliness. :P
It's also a nice way to give some kind of confirmation or encouragement for the reviewing.
2007-05-26 [Annie]: Ok, I put a review up for the Little Mermaid, I hope I did it pretty much right. :)
AND I can't open Sashenka...I don't think my computer supports that file type.
2007-05-26 [Mister Saint]: it's a .rtf. You'll have to save it to your computer and open it with your word processor. ^^ None of the .html formats were working o.O.
2007-05-26 [Mister Saint]: Okay, here's another thing. I've got an example of what I mean by the reviewer badges up at the the little mermaid II in place of my name. We'll eventually have a page where people can grab those to put on the reviewed writings page, and I highly suggest we make certain to do so every time we get a review.
Note that, if you aren't overly artistic, someone else will probably help you make a button. If you are, feel free to do your own!
2007-05-26 [Annie]: I love yours Mister Saint, I think it's cute. :) So...would it be possible to put these little buttons up in our page descriptions as well? Perhaps a link to the story and then put the button next to the link?
2007-05-26 [Mister Saint]: *ponder ponder* well, my button's awfully big, and if there ever got to be many of them it would get clunky, but sure.
2007-05-26 [Annie]: Mmm....I could see that. :)
2007-05-27 [Mister Saint]: *bounceness* We're actually rolling better than I'd expected, here. *nods* Whoo hoo! ... hoo!
2007-05-27 [Annie]: I figured out your file format and put up my review of it. ^_^ I hope I wasn't too harsh...but this is about growing as a writer and what not. Should I put up a story of my choice that I would like reviewed?
2007-05-27 [Mister Saint]: Absolutely, yes. Remember, we're working on openings in particular right now. ^^
2007-05-27 [Eleanor]: [Mister Saint], I have left a critique for you at Storyshop - Sashenka.
2007-05-27 [Mister Saint]: Oh, tres spiff. ^_^!
2007-05-27 [Annie]: Hm...openings.
2007-05-29 [Mister Saint]: Well, it depends on how short. *grins* I reviewed Eleanor's whole story, though, so it wouldn't be fair not to do the same for you, Annie, so we'll just do openings next time. Sound good?
2007-05-29 [Mister Saint]: Okee! We have a rules page now at Storyshop Rulebook. Any additions, questions, or ideas on it, let me know!
2007-05-29 [Annie]: It looks good to me.
Well no I don't mind doing an opening...I just know how bad my only opening is. My short stories are like 500-900 words tops. That's probably the same length as my only opening. I'll put up my opening and prepare myself for the worst. >.< :P
It's a good thing you told me that was the theme though cause it's not written anywhere on the page...
2007-05-29 [Annie]: Ok I put up my opening, but wow...I had no idea it was that long. I thought it was way shorter than that. So please don't read the whole thing if you don't want to, a quarter or half or something, whatever. Read to wherever and just comment on what you read. :)
2007-05-29 [Mister Saint]: Well, it's okay not to worry about just the opening this time, since it ended up not working out anyway. ^^ Thash why it's not on the page.
2007-05-29 [Annie]: Oh, I see. :)
2007-05-29 [Mister Saint]: I've got the buttons page up and a new set of literary terms! Please feel free to make additions (do your research first) or ask questions. Also, people involved in this page should watch every one of the pages, just in case something changes. ^^
2007-06-02 [Mister Saint]: Here's something else I'd like to see. I'd like to see reviewed pieces from here occasionally nominated for featured writing. It needs help, and it'd be nice to see some storyshop reviewed bits get up there.
Annie, Eleanor, are you two interested in buttons?
2007-06-02 [Eleanor]: I’m not really that interested in buttons. As I mentioned before somewhere, the piece I submitted this time is one I’m hoping to submit to an actual juried competition, so I have to get it offline in a jiffy. But if it encourages more people to get involved in Storyshop, it’s not a bad idea.
2007-06-02 [Annie]: Sure, but I'll make my own button when I have time, so don't worry about it. I'd rather my intro didn't get nominated to the featured writings, not that I expect it to, but it's not one of my favorites so...I mean, is that a requirement?
2007-06-02 [Mister Saint]: nah! We'd really only want to nominate finished stuff anyway. It's just something I'd like to see at some point.
2007-06-02 [Eleanor]: I apologize for not having been able to pay much attention to what’s going on here lately. I’m working on a deadline right now, and don’t have time left over for critical reading, but I promise I’ll read your piece soon, [Annie].
2007-06-03 [Mister Saint]: Note to everyone, I've got a table of contents added to Literary Terms. Please use this page, as I know I use the terms there fairly often in my reviews.
2008-03-25 [RiddleRose]: hello... i just stumbled across this page, and it looks great! what should i know that isn't in the rules but is pretty much required? unspoken policies? taboos with deathly punishments? in short, how does this place run?
2008-03-25 [Mister Saint]: It hasn't run in quite a while, unfortunately.
2008-03-28 [RiddleRose]: aw... that's sad.
