2006-06-12 [Paz]: lmao XD

2006-06-12 [dmeredith]: oops, typo... HORSES... OH well another potential laden joke dies a horrible horrible death.

2006-06-13 [Paz]: Hahaha! XD That's okay!

2006-06-13 [Kiddalee]: We just went along with it and made it funny anyways.

2006-06-14 [RiddleRose]: because we're cool like that... *ego ego ego!* XD hoses!

2006-06-14 [Kiddalee]: ***turns on the water*** Yeah! Water!

2006-06-15 [RiddleRose]: dance in rain!!! whee!

2006-06-15 [Paz]: *splashes in a puddle and gets everyone wet* Yay! XD yay for wetness!

2006-06-15 [dmeredith]: Does the wetness have anything to do with the hose spanking? Remember! Let's keep it G-rated folks! ;)

2006-06-16 [RiddleRose]: har har! spank those naughty hoses!

2006-06-16 [Kiddalee]: *cranks*

2006-06-19 [Paz]: O___o *spanks a hose* I believe hose spanking is entirely G-rated :P

2006-06-19 [Kiddalee]: I think so, too.

2006-06-20 [RiddleRose]: *spanks paz with hose* this one agrees. HAHAAAA! PAZ IS WET!!!

2006-06-29 [Paz]: Oh noez! :O *spanks sunny with a paper towel tube* XD Meh heheh!

2006-07-18 [Kiddalee]: It's been half a month! *writes a message*

2006-07-20 [Paz]: Oh noez! >.> *spams as well*

2006-07-25 [dmeredith]: *not to be outdone, disregards spam and goes straight to the beans!*

2006-07-25 [Kiddalee]: ***makes toast to compliment the beans* Now you have a complete protein!

2006-07-26 [dmeredith]: The spam, spam, beans and spam is particularly good...

2006-07-26 [Paz]: Beans are gross >.> But... Beans, beans the magical fruit the more you eat the more you... XD haha! (I'm such a child XP)

2006-07-26 [dmeredith]: They're also good for your heart I hear...

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: So eat them every day of the year!

2006-07-28 [RiddleRose]: MONTY PYTHON!!!  WOOOOOO!!! spam, spam, spam... SPAMALOT! heehee!

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: I don't like spam!

2006-07-28 [RiddleRose]: heh... me neither! but i love monty python!

2006-07-28 [Kiddalee]: I honestly haven't seen a whole lot of Monty Python. All I've seen is The Holy Grail, which I don't remember too well, and an episode or two of Flying Circus.

2006-07-29 [RiddleRose]: tsk tsk! thou mustest see the life of brian too!

2006-07-29 [Paz]: You should see them all :D They are amazingly hilarious!! They have a spam song too >.>

2006-07-29 [Kiddalee]: Nah, it's not really my style.

2006-07-29 [Kiddalee]: Goodness, has anybody noticed that the "relevant Google text ads" have been linking to abuse awareness sites? Must be all the spanking.

2006-07-31 [dmeredith]: That's not abuse! *continues in throaty, sexy voice* unless you want it to be...

2006-07-31 [Kiddalee]: Also web filters to block porno sites from your kids on the family computer.

2006-07-31 [dmeredith]: But how to block kids from your family porno? Another issue entirely, I suppose...

2006-07-31 [Kiddalee]: Say, [dmeredith], what kind of hours are hentai allowed on TV in Japan?

2006-08-01 [dmeredith]: Never, although graphic violence is OK anytime! Seriously though it's available anytime from these neat vending machines with mirror glass in them that you can only see through when it gets dark at night and the lights inside light it up. Then of course you can also get it in convenience stores, electronic shops, video stores, and most chain grocery stores as well!

2006-08-01 [Kiddalee]: Do they require IDs?

2006-08-01 [dmeredith]: Well, the cursory kind (i.e. yeah you look old enough to me) but honestly they don't ever say anything to foreigners because first we all look older to them than we really are and second they're scared to death we will talk at them in English. So I guess in answer to your question, effectively no.

2006-08-18 [Kiddalee]: Has everybody been to Pump Up The Pop?

2006-08-22 [dmeredith]: Nothing like Pump Up The Jam huh? I don't know though... one of the things I really like about Writersco is the intimate nature of the place. Elftown in really impersonal and you have to deal with a lot of crap there that just isn't a problem here (flamers, sexual propositions from people you don't know, left wing or right wing crazies going on rants in forums that have nothing to do with what everyone else is talking about, etc.) I know we don't want the population to shrink to zero, but I tend to think that being small is a good thing. I can actually look at the recent logons list and know who the hell most of those people are! Just a thought I guess...

2006-08-22 [Font]: We don't want to become an elitest group, and new blood sparks new ideas. None of us are the perfect writer, and with new people we can grasp onto new ideas. We can't let the well run dry now can we? And when it comes to applications for the community, we are pretty strict, you really have to be here to write or read, no funny business. ;)

2006-08-23 [Kiddalee]: Yeah. This place is small enough, and it grows slowly already due to the application system. There's no need to make it any slower. Besides, the growth of a web community's population is similar to the growth of a country's population in that you also have to factor in people who leave (or die), and that will keep happening whether people are coming in or not.

2006-08-24 [dmeredith]: I'm noy saying that we shouldn't bring in new people, I just hope it never gets like Elfwood (where I think my ID is like 174675 or something like that). I think the application is a good thing because it filters out people who really aren't that interested and who would just quit anyway. Because of the upfront investment of time you have to put in here however, I think people are more inclined to stick around. I guess also I would ask too, how long and by how much membership has declined? Could it not just be seasonal now that people are on summer vacation and away from their computers?

2006-08-25 [Kiddalee]: Hmm... this is my first summer here. I guess I should see if it picks up over the fall... However, we could use some people from the Southern Hemisphere who wouldn't be on vacation right now. As for me, I didn't go on a vacation. *cries* I just sat at home all summer.

2006-08-26 [dmeredith]: I didn't have much of a vacation this year either. I've been off for about three weeks and that's been nice though. Today was the last day of Shinjo Matsuri (big local festival here). Every neighborhood builds these huge elaborate floats and drags them through town for three days playing flutes and drums and cymbals. I was pretty cool and my daughter was excited about getting to wear her new yukata. So I suppose good time had by all.

2006-09-02 [Kiddalee]: I am off to school. I don't know when I'll have internet again. Hopefully in a week?

2006-09-02 [dmeredith]: We"ll miss you! Come back soon!

2006-09-06 [RiddleRose]: i like the smallness too... but still, being too small is a problem. school for me too, so i'll be on more, but for more limited periods of time... whee! school! i'm so excited!!!

2006-09-07 [dmeredith]: You nerd... ; ) But what can I say? I'm a teacher. I guess I have to like it too. I guess I appreciate the breaks, but I'm ready to go back when they're over with too.

2006-09-07 [Paz]: Am I the only one who's not in school yet? :P LOL! Sunny you are a nerd! xD *pokes* Shame I didn't get to see you much over the holidays...

2006-09-07 [Kiddalee]: Nerdiness is sexy!

2006-09-11 [RiddleRose]: ooh! does that mean i get to be sexy??? i am a nerd. i am a master nerd.

2006-09-12 [Kiddalee]: I am a lit geek. :D I am sexy.

2006-09-12 [dmeredith]: You'll always be sexy Sunny ; )and Vicki too... Hazzah for the Writersco pinups!

2006-09-14 [Paz]: Aww... I can't be sexy? :P I'm an art geek? xD

2006-09-17 [RiddleRose]: Paz is uber-sexy, as demonstrated by me leaping upon her and... we'll leave it at that. ;)

2006-09-19 [Kiddalee]: >.>

2006-09-20 [RiddleRose]: heehee

2006-09-24 [Kiddalee]: How very cocky! You attest to be able to sexify anyone by leaping upon them and...

2006-09-28 [RiddleRose]: how can i resist someone as sexy as ze pazzle-paz?

(i get ot be cocky and sexy! whee!)

2006-10-07 [Kiddalee]: *grimaces*

2006-10-08 [dmeredith]: I liked Grimace. He was big and purple...

2006-10-12 [Kiddalee]: I wish I had seen my dean's dog when she was pink.

2006-10-12 [dmeredith]: You can't possibly just let my Grimace comment go! Just like that? Haven't you ever been to McDonald's? Come, come now. That's good stuff, that is!

2006-10-14 [RiddleRose]: i despise mcdonalds with the burning passion of a hundred thousand suns!!! KILL THE BEASTE!!!

2006-10-14 [dmeredith]: Burger King then? But they don't have any cutsy martketing characters! I can hardly quip about those stupid paper crowns they give out... :(

2006-10-14 [Kiddalee]: I never knew Burger King, and I was too young to get to know the McDonald's characters. Anyways, I hate McDonald's. Especially how their breakfast menu closes so early. Morons. They could make so much money keeping it open until 11.

2006-10-16 [dmeredith]: I concede you the breakfast point. Although I think there are discussions at the corporate level to make breakfast available all day long... Wendy's then?

2006-10-16 [Kiddalee]: I've only had a little bit of Wendy's. My family were McDonald's people, so when I got sick of it, I didn't go anywhere else. I just stopped eating fast food.

2006-10-17 [RiddleRose]: destroy all fast food chains that make people obese and serve crap food that shortens your life span... destroooooyyyyyyy tthhhhhheeeeeemmmmmmmmm...... do you realise how bad mcdonald's food is? (to use it as an example)

sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine

2006-10-17 [iippo]: Make people obese? : D *imagines Ronald McDonald sneaking around, making people fat with his fattening magic wand*
No one has to eat in those places. But the food tastes nice/ok and it's cheap, so people go there. I'd eat in a restaurant that served healthier food, if their food tasted as nice or better and was cheaper or as cheap as fast food (assuming no extra travel was included to either place).

2006-10-17 [Font]: Mcdonalds UK has a wide range of salads, fresh fruit, and deli sandwiches. They also encourage sport and healthy living, hah and i'm pretty sure our large meal size is somewhere near Americas regular. In my opinion you are what you eat no one is forcing you to pick a particular item from a menu ;)

2006-10-17 [dmeredith]: I love you Sunny, but I'm afraid I must bludgeon you a bit. McDonalds hasn't made anyone fat. Overindulgent pigs who eat too much there and too often make themselves fat, then compound the problem with sedentary lifestyles. It's all about personal self control and responsibility. Every time I hear some seven hundred pound whiney parent griping that McDonalds made their kid fat I want to physically shake them and demand to know who drove their kids to the restrant and paid for the food so little Tubby could stuff his fat face full of Jumbo sized french fries five meals a day... Sorry, one of MY pet peeves.

2006-10-19 [RiddleRose]: okay, so perhaps mickey d's didn't go around actively forcing people to eat their food. but fact: they sell food that is bad for you. and yes, they have salads. but have you ever thought about the salad dressing? salad dressing is usually a large percentage oil anyway, but there are gradations of good oil to eat and bad oil. typically, the bad oil is cheaper. therefore, that is what is served at fast food places.
fact: the food tastes good. i do not deny this. however, this does not make it any more healthy for you. often, what makes something "taste good" is the excessive amounts of grease and oil in it.
fact: not all fat is bad for you. obviously, if you have no fat at all, you have a problem. however, there is a "good weight" for everyone. it's not fixed, and it varies from person to person, depending on build, health, age, etc. etc. if you go too far over or under that perfect weight, you have a problem.
fact: mcdonald's serving sizes are enormous. you cannot tell me this is not true. go online and look for a comparison of mcdonald's burger sizes from when they started, up to the present. it is SHOCKING.
fact: yes, if you have good self-control, you will probably not get too overweight. however, consider the average working man/woman who works in an office. ze probably doesn't get a ton of exercise. ze probably is in a hurry to get to work in the morning, and hungry and tired on the way home. in the morning, ze picks up a latte from dunkin donuts, and on the way home, gets a regular sized burger and a medium fries from mcdonald's. maybe ze gets a salad too.
what makes hir get this is convenience. it's cheap, it's easy, it's fast, it's on the way. however, if, instead of the latte, that person took two minutes out of their morning routine to make themselves a fruit smoothie, and stops by the local grocery store on the way home to pick up a turkey sandwich and a salad...
you cannot tell me that that is less healthy than going ot a fast food place. all together, it might take five to seven minutes out of their routine. it might be slightly inconvenient, but probably not much, and it is a hell of a lot better for your body. i guarantee you will not gain as much weight as you would otherwise. it's probably not much more expensive. it tastes just as good. your body will thank you when it's not carrying around all that extra grease.

2006-10-19 [RiddleRose]: sorry for the essay...

2006-10-19 [Font]: Being handed a cold pasta dish, a bottle of RiverRock water and a fresh fruit over the counter at McDs, is cheap, fast and probably a lot healthier than bread filled with carbs, spread with butter or mayo with turkey inside.

Heh you really need to visit a UK McDonalds :P You mentioned this stereotypical office dude (who over here should get 1 hour paid lunch to go get food anyways) getting a salad on the way - won't that have that ever so fatty and damaging dressing that you cursed McD's for using.

The fact of the matter is that McDonalds like any other company caters for what its customers want. Over here people are more interested in healthier options and so a large part of the menus are geared towards those interests whilst also providing regular sized 100% British Beef meals ;)

Any restaurant you go to is going to serve food that is bad for you. If I went to a restaurant everyday and ordered steak and potatoes it wouldn't do me any good, likewise if I ate salads day in day out.

Blaming a provider of food is incorrect we can't be naïve and say oh that person is overweight because so and so sold them burgers. no one should spend their lives eating in a fast food establishment; a balanced diet is a necessity. But no one can blame an establishment because they think they only serve unhealthy food; too much of anything is bad for you, no matter what. Eat different foods in moderation.

Having said all that, I'm not a fast food fan, but once in a while helps break up the routine a little.

2006-10-19 [iippo]: I've had a salad in McD and it didn't have dressing in it... I don't remember if they asked if I want dressing and I said no (since I hate it), or if they had like little baggies of dressing that you could put in your own salad and I didn't - but the salad I had didn't have dressing.
And I find the burgers to be small in McD, too. o.O (UK speaking).
And the office dude can get bent. :P That example is about individual choice, nothing to do with fast food being evil. And why is it that so many people complain about how bad that food is for other people, but no one does anything about it? If they can't deal with the fact that all people aren't so health/looks -obsessed that they'd care about diets and food, they could just open a healthy-but-cheap-fast-food restaurant and try to make the people eat there. It's not McDonald's fault.

2006-10-19 [dmeredith]: Two words dearest Sunny:
    1.Supply
    2.Demand
If people didn't buy it McD's wouldn't sell it. What it all come down to is personal self control. I don't think anyone believes that a Big Mac is health food. McDonald's isn't doing anything deceptive or devious. People know that most of their menu is loaded with cholesteral. No one is arguing that their food is 'good for you' but blaming the business because people overindulge is rediculous. (I might also mention that the same logic was applied to brewing companies for 'making' alcoholics in the 1930's push for prohibition).

2006-10-24 [Kiddalee]: So, is our new subject going to facilitate intelligent, heated discussion, or random silliness?

2006-10-24 [dmeredith]: It is... "Now".... but later? Who knows? I'm just so whimsical! You never know what I might come up with.

2006-10-25 [Kiddalee]: ***whispers to the rest: He's self-absorbed, too.

2006-10-25 [dmeredith]: And arrogant! But doesn't my whimsy make it forgiveable?

2006-10-27 [Kiddalee]: Wah! I lost my student card! It's a bus pass! Wah!

2006-10-31 [RiddleRose]: i don't know about britain... i've never eaten at a mcd's there. the office dude i was speaking of is a completely hypothetical situation, but one that happens often. i also refer to america, which is where i live, and have experience.

i know that lots of restaurants sell things that aren't healthy. it's just that mcd's is so very blatant about it. and not just them either. fast food is about grease and speed. quick and dirty. and yes, it is partly about self-control. but there are also people who just don't think about it. or don't know about it. or don't really have any other choice.

and do you know why there aren't really any fast food restaurants that are healthy? people can't do it. te chains push them out of business. they have such a monopoly, and the food tastes so good, they just shove all the other little businesses out. a similar situation is going on with wal-mart.

2006-10-31 [Kiddalee]: A few people I know have been boycotting Wal-Mart in Canada and going to Zellers. It helps that Zellers has improved their merchandise to compete. ***boycotts!!!* For us, it's not just a bigger business taking too much control of the industry. It's our money leaving the country without coming back.

2006-10-31 [dmeredith]: The CUSTOMERS push them out of business K. As much as people like to talk about conspiracy theories and dark corporate manipulations, the bottom line is that people buy what they want at the lowest price they can find. Those businesses who supply the items consumers demand at the lowest prices stay in business. Those with great moral rectitude and high minded ideals, but nothing on the menu that anyone wants at a high price, go under. When the consumer demands healthier food en masse, businesses will provide it. Their's no benefit to not providing somthing lots of people really want. If you do that your missing out on a lot of profitable business that someone ELSE will snap up and get rich. As to people "not thinking about it" they should, but if they don't that is their freedom to choose. Do you really want the government telling you what you can and cannot eat? Same thing with Wal-Mart. When a Canadian chain can offer the same goods at the same or lower prices, that's when you'll see people shopping there, not before... It's "all 'bout the Benjamins" folks, supply and demand make the world go round.

2006-11-01 [RiddleRose]: i didn't say the government should tell us what ot eat. i said that fast food is unhealthy, and since there are other options, you should take them, and keep yourself healthy. i also said that if the people who ran the big chains cared about anything besides getting more and more money, they'd actually serve at least marginally healthy food. it's not like they need the money.

2006-11-01 [dmeredith]: I never claimed fast food was healthy either. If McDonald's comes out and says "eat a Big Mac! It's great for your heart!" then I would support that particuylar law suit, but they don't. As for only caring about money... No one get's into any business because they're altruists. You are either making money or going out of business. Don't need more money? If companies make more money they hire more workers. When they hire more workers those people spend the money and everyone makes more money and creats even more jobs. This ultimately causes wages to go up. If business is not booming then you are unemployed.

2006-11-01 [iippo]: there are other options, you should take them
So it's better that it's not the governments saying "you shouldn't eat this", but you?
Bottom line: telling grown up people what is good for them without sounding patronising is very difficult. It's better to let adults take care of themselves. If they eat themselves to death, then it's all the more air for you and I to breathe.

2006-11-06 [dmeredith]: And on that note... *passes out carrot sticks and peanut butter in honor of Sunny, K, and healthy dining* On to something completely different! Kind of a get to know you kinda thing... pick one adjective that you think describes you and one that describes one other person on "Now". Go in alphabetical order (the adjectives, I mean)... I'll start with A:

Me: Amusing (I think so at least. Of course I may just be amusing myself.

Riddle Rose: Amenable ('Cause yer so darn nice!)

OK, who wants B?

2006-11-06 [Kiddalee]: Me: Bubbly
Font: British? (I couldn't think of anything, so...)

2006-11-06 [dmeredith]: Aren't you from Canada? OK I'll take it... (and you are indeed quite bubbly BTW ;' ) ) C anyone?

2006-11-10 [Kiddalee]: Font isn't Canadian... That I know of... (Oh, and since it is so unfitting, I just want to say that McDonald's has a particularly bad reputation here in North America because of the media hype against it, so their attempts to improve health-wise, whether genuine or not, are not being well acknowledged)

2006-11-10 [dmeredith]: Nevermind... Brain fart... I knew that of course, I was just evidently suffering a case of temporary mental retardation however. I think I'm over it now...This one's not shaping up so well in terms of attracting interest. Have you got any zingers to stimulate commentary, K?

2006-11-10 [Kiddalee]: Say, is there a name for that alphabetical improv game? One where you hold a conversation, in which every sentence has to begin with the next letter in the alphabet to the one before? And the conversation may be carried out entirely in questions?

2006-11-10 [dmeredith]: Not one I recall but how about "That Alphabetical Improv Game? One Where You Hold a Conversation, In Which Every Sentence Has to Begin With The Next Letter In The Alphabet to The One Before? And The Conversation May Be Carried Out Entirely in Questions?"

No?

2006-11-10 [Kiddalee]: *snerk*

dmeredith: cheesy

2006-11-10 [dmeredith]: Me: desidedly humorous

RiddleRose: Umm... golden?

2006-11-14 [dmeredith]: THAT one is actually just a typo... Agh, I guess I'm slipping a bit...

2006-11-14 [Kiddalee]: Which? Humorous, or fantastic?

2006-11-14 [dmeredith]:

Whose turn was it again?

2006-11-14 [Kiddalee]: We were taking turns? There are so few of us, I wasn't going after myself, but I only intended to wait for one more person before going again.

2006-11-14 [dmeredith]: We'll leave the next one for Sunny then. She should turn up by tomorrow I would guess.

2006-11-16 [RiddleRose]: good guess. XP

2007-03-06 [Kiddalee]: Doesn't "s" come before "t"? *confusles*

2007-03-06 [iippo]: dmeredith did 's', then you did 't'.

2007-03-06 [Kiddalee]: Then [--------] did "s".

2007-03-10 [RiddleRose]: how did you know i was ticklish????? -blinkblinkblink!!!!-

2007-03-10 [Kiddalee]: I'm a good guesser :P

2007-03-14 [dmeredith]: Does anyone know anything about this site?

http://writefieldservices.com

Is it legit? Take a look and let me know what you think about it everyone. Thanks.

2007-03-15 [Kiddalee]: I've never heard of them before. Though it is kind of one of my jobs to update the Publishers and Spam pages in the Writer's Resource, I am kind of backlogged. Thanks for telling me their name, though. I guess I can stick them on a todo list of sorts.

2007-03-15 [Font]: They seem legit, they are offering a freelancing servies, quoted prices and stated in their policy that they will not charge over the agreed amount. Also they will not accept that work is complete until you are satisfied. Google their name to see if any negaitive feedback comes up.

2007-03-15 [Kiddalee]: Good idea, [Font]. So, you're good at investigating the legitimacy of companies in the publishing industry, I presume?

2007-03-26 [Kiddalee]: Aaagh!!! I want chocolate!

2007-03-26 [RiddleRose]: CHOCOLATE???? WHERE????

2007-04-25 [Font]: I am just very weary of literary companies, I've made a few mistakes in my time, so I research until I have a firm opinion of them.

2007-05-04 [Kiddalee]: Do you have any records of your research, that I could use for the different sections of the Writer's Resource, particularly Scams?

2007-06-20 [Font]: I didn,t keep any records, but I could certainly write up a few things that I make sure I look out for when considering approaching an agent or publisher.

2007-06-21 [Kiddalee]: Whee! That would be great!

2007-06-29 [dmeredith]: So how is Summer vacation treating everyone. I've been so wrapped up with my new job that I haven't really been on much, but at least I have been writing. My novel is finally finished and about ready to be marketed I think, but I'm just waiting for a few of my test readers to get back to me with any suggestions they might have. The one's I've heard from so far have all been really positive, so I'me guardedly confident. I also posted the first short story that I've managed to get finished in about a year to Elfwood, so assuming there are no problems with it, that should be up in about two weeks as well. Hows everybody else doing? What's new with you?

2007-06-30 [RiddleRose]: that was a nice little subtle reminder... XD i'm sorry, i'm a bad bad person, it will be read eventually (this summer!!) i promise!

2007-07-02 [Kiddalee]: Long ago I was scared that the draft I printed was obsolete after all the procrastinating I'd done. I have the summer 2006 one saved on my hard drive. But now I also have lots of time on my hands. If you'll give me a couple of weeks to finish what I'm already reading, I could get started on the latest draft you're willing to send (if you've since written a new one). Sorry about that.

2007-07-02 [dmeredith]: I have actually been remiss K ... heh, heh, heh,... I think the last draft I sent you... You haven't been on my mailing list for some time now... I'm not sure why, but.... I've rewritten probably four more times since you tried to start that (I appologize for inflicting the old one upon you) but the one that I have done now is about the final draft I think. It scarcly resembles the one you have at all anymore I'd imagine. The biggest difference being of course the one I have now actually being GOOD (of course that is an admittedly biased opinion)  ; )  Could you please write my Writersco account and send me your e-mail again please?

2007-07-07 [dmeredith]: Ok... so what does everyone want to talk about... Now... Anything new and exciting in your literary world? How about your real one? We never talk anymore... (sigh) I miss you guys! (I'm also slightly inebriated... but "in veno veritas" right?)

2007-07-08 [Kiddalee]: New and exciting... Well, I just finished Out of the Silent Planet by CS Lewis. I have lots of time to write now, because I will be out of school indefinately, and I'm willingly staying on part-time work until the fall. I've written a lot of a Concerti already this month. And I have a new little story outline coming out. As for your book... well, I guess I'm reading it anyways.

2007-07-12 [dmeredith]: Does anyone know anything about the contest below. My wife wants to enter it, but has been burnt before. At first glance it looks OK to me but what do you think?

2007-07-15 [dmeredith]: I just got my new short story up on elfwood. Check it out and leave a comment! Thanks!

http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/libr/d/m/dmeredith/theembrace.htm.html

2007-07-16 [Kiddalee]: Why not try finding a KICA Winning Essays book in a library or on a database (similar EBSCO Host)? Or look up the affiliated organisations they mention? Might you be able to find a mention of this contest in the Kyoto University website somewhere? You could Google search within a domain.

2007-08-21 [dmeredith]: Hello all... It's been a while... So what shall we talk about now? Hmmm?

2007-08-23 [Kiddalee]: Then!

2007-08-27 [dmeredith]: Then... What?

2007-09-04 [Kiddalee]: Happy birthday!

2007-09-06 [dmeredith]: Thanks K... Much appreciated... So what did you get me? A glowing book review perhaps? (^-^)

2007-10-05 [dmeredith]:

And maybe this: http://www.fanstory.com/privacy.jsp

If it's fair (I've yet to look at it), you've still got to wonder if winning these contest would make you look any better on a query letter. Not only might some publishers underacknowledge the value of online communities. Many avoid pieces that have been published online, before.
WritersCo is fair, but you could say the same thing.

2007-10-11 [dmeredith]: That's kinda what I'm thinking too. I just don't want another Poetry.com style waste of time. I got suckered into that one in highschool. Thanks for the links, I'll try to check them out soon.

2007-10-11 [dmeredith]: Oh! I also have (at long, long... long last) a new piece up in my presentation. Don't worry. It's short. Just over two pages in word. Check it out and don't forget to leave a rating!

2007-11-24 [Kiddalee]: It's winter now!

2007-11-25 [RiddleRose]: ick...

2007-11-27 [dmeredith]: The first snow fell here last week... About 6 inches, but it's already melted off. It will probably really hit about the middle of December though. Then we'll have about 7 FEET on the ground until April or May... ick is right.

2007-12-01 [Kiddalee]: Yeah? Well you moved there. Quit whining.

2007-12-02 [RiddleRose]: haha... i have to say, if i got seven feet of snow i would happily make tunnels, and really enjoy myself. so i have very little sympathy for that particular complaint. it's only half-baked snow i don't like!

2007-12-04 [dmeredith]: That's because you don't have to drive in it... I used to like snow too before I had to drive to work in it every day.

Tunnels would still probably be fun though...

Missed you around here BTW R.R.. I understand Nano went well for you?

2007-12-04 [RiddleRose]: i won! 50,172!

2007-12-07 [dmeredith]: Hazzah for Sunny! What did you write about? Is it up yet?

2007-12-12 [RiddleRose]: ugh. it's up... if you really want to read it. the first half or so is decent i guess... at least funny, and not terrible. after about halfway though... -shudder- don't judge me. i was writing to a killer deadline. ;)

and it's about a lad and his friend who invented a drug that makes you see characters from the books his friend writes. i like the characters. all of them are fun to play with. but... well. it's a nanovel. and if you're going to read mine, reading [pirate witch]'s as well might clarify it in some ways. not that i'd particularly suggest reading mine. it is TERRIBLE. really. there are parts i'm actually ashamed to have written.

2007-12-12 [dmeredith]: That's what editing and rewriting are for. I finished my novel last (meaning 2006) Fall, so I've been revising and polishing it for over a year. It's getting close I think, but it's still not 100% ready to be sent to a publisher. Just be patient with it. Put enough time in and it will get to where you want it to be.

2007-12-16 [RiddleRose]: yeah... i think i may put the actual story on hold, because in the process of writing it, this subplot appeared randomly. it started out as a filler, and ended up being a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood... and i just ADORE it. so i think i might write that one first, then get back ot the general story.

2007-12-19 [dmeredith]: yeah. Whatever you do stay flexible. No one said you ever had to write everything in order. That's a good way to get over writers block too. If you get stuck in one place write something else, but keep writing.

2007-12-22 [dmeredith]: Just to be a total pest... ; )  I still need valiant souls to read my newest story, "The Date", and to leave comments and score. It's really short and won't take more than about 10-15 minutes of your time. The link is in a post above.

2008-01-18 [dmeredith]: Hello everyone, I just watned to ask any and all of you to check out the new story I have up on Elfwood. I really appreciate the feedback. I will, of course, be more than happy to return the favor to anyone who takes the time to read it and comment. Thanks!

http://www.elfwood.com/libr/d/m/dmeredith/demon_house.htm.html

2008-01-18 [dmeredith]: Am I the only one who posts in here anymore?

2008-01-18 [Calann]: I have always merely stalked.

2008-01-20 [RiddleRose]: i tend to stalk also... with the occasional post if something looks like the beginning of a scintillating conversation. :)

2008-01-21 [Kiddalee]: I don't always answer.

2008-05-25 [dmeredith]: 5/10/2008 12:15pm. 4030 grams 53cm

Asher Cohen Meredith

I'll try to get a pic up soon.

:D

2008-05-25 [dmeredith]: Should we come up with a name for the Writerscoezine besides "writersoezine"?

It looks great by the way. Everyone should check it out.

2008-06-02 [Kiddalee]: I want to see that pic.

2008-06-02 [RiddleRose]: congrats! welcome to the world baby!

2008-07-03 [dmeredith]: I just put a new story up on Elfwood...

http://www.elfwood.com/libr/d/m/dmeredith/the_date_elfwood.htm.html.html

It's not very long so I hope you will all take a fw minutes to check it out and tell me what you think. Thanks!

2008-12-14 [Font]: Anyone doing anything special over the feastive season?

2008-12-14 [Caramel Eyes]: hey if anyone wants to check out my writing go to my wiki page acornspoetry and check it out. they are good!!

2008-12-14 [Font]: Acorn's poetry ;)

2008-12-15 [RiddleRose]: i discovered an aspect of writing that i thoroughly dislike. college essays make me want to go live in a hole in the woods for the rest of my life.

but break is in a week! and then i get delicious food, and no homework, and presents!

2008-12-16 [dmeredith]: Wanted to fly back to the States for a visit this Christmas. We haven't been home in two years after all, but the economy bites so we'll just be doing christmas here in Yamagata again. We might get snow at least though. I'm watching the weather forecasts hopefully.

2008-12-20 [RiddleRose]: my house hasn't had power for a week. we think we'll probably get it back before christmas... yay ice storms!

2009-02-10 [teh-emo-rin]: this place is scarey

2009-03-10 [RiddleRose]: there are teeth in some places. just teeth. and hungry, hungry hippos.

2011-03-08 [Annie]: :D We're not dead!

2011-03-10 [Calann]: CPR is being performed, I see. :P

2011-03-10 [Annie]: Heh heh...Quite.

2011-05-01 [sammie h!]: who is the member boss now, as i wish to apply for it

2011-05-01 [Annie]: I'm not sure what you mean by member boss. Could you explain that a little more?

2011-05-02 [sammie h!]: basically so i can help members, be part of the staff

2011-05-02 [sammie h!]: i could get alot of people joining as i know alot of writers

2011-05-02 [Annie]: I don't think we usually make every new member a part of the staff as soon as they join, but I don't really know how Hedda and the others feel about it. In other words, it would be great for you to invite your friends but you probably shouldn't make them all staff.
But as for inviting new members...you should do that whether you're staff or not. ;)

2011-05-02 [sammie h!]: i ment, i want to become part of the staff, i want to help people on here

2011-05-03 [Annie]: I suggest you take this question to the Staff page.

2021-04-09 [Sabrina Catherine]: If anyone is still out here, hello!
