This is a contest created for Flipside and hosted by [Askoga].

The basic premise of this contest is as follows:

You are to write a short piece describing a small thing in detail. It can be anything, but I want it to be interesting to the reader. If you can make a marble interesting to read about, by all means, describe it! If you prefer to describe an action, feel free! But you must describe something, anything, in detail.

<img:stuff/flipdiv.gif>

The rules are as follows:

1. It must be at least one paragraph dedicated to describing this thing.
2. If you wish to continue it into a short story, feel free. Do not let it be over 2,000 words, please.
3. If it is extended into more than just the description, I want the descriptive paragraph italicized. If there is more than one thing described in detail, please italicize the one that you want me to judge.

As yet, there is no deadline.

However, the winner gets a piece of their writing, of their choice, critiqued by me. If that is disagreable, please ask for something else, and if it is in my power to do so, I will give that as a prize instead.

Here is my example: 89.Impressions. The paragraph that was my exercise in description is italicized.

And the winner is:
[La Divina]!
Alright, so you get a critique from yours truly. As I said in the contest description, though, if that's a disagreeable prize, come up with something you like better and suggest it.

Alrightee, now that I've said that, I have to say, once again, that all four entries were really good. I'm not a great judge, in the end, but I did my best, and I tried to be fair in my evaluations (which I will not let y'all see, since the ones I wrote down are embarrassingly brief and general, and not very good). I read and reread, and reread (boy did I spend a lot of time rereading everything...) all of the entries, and picked out the one that touched me most, the one that, in the end, gave me the best picture and feeling for the situation. Good job, everyone, and I hope I challenged y'all at least a little bit!

2006-09-10 [Askoga]: -bounces, can't wait to see his entry and the others that enter-

2006-09-11 [Askoga]: Huzzah! A first entry!

2006-09-11 [RiddleRose]: if i can i'll enter...

2006-09-12 [Askoga]: Yay! -bounces- I'm so glad there's some participation (and thoughts of it, too!)

2006-09-19 [Mister Saint]: I'm going to enter soon, I promise! Everything's gone to hell here in the last few days so I'm a little bit out of sorts, but I'll get it!

2006-09-20 [Spike]: hey can one of my paragraphs work from here my story book, yes i know it really sucks

2006-09-20 [Askoga]: Which paragraph in specific did you have in mind? I would prefer new works, but recycled ones are acceptible as long as they follow the rules.

2006-09-21 [Spike]: any of them, i think the hole thing is shit though, and it is still a work in progess

2006-09-25 [viperess1]: So if you wish to write a discriptive paragraph for this contest, where would you place it?

2006-09-25 [Aeolynn]: in your writings...

2006-10-02 [Mister Saint]: *headbangs* ^-^ This is going pretty well.

2006-10-02 [La Divina]: I had fun writing my piece. This was a very good contest for getting my creative juices flowing again. Thanks, [Askoga].

2006-10-02 [Askoga]: Whee! I should set a deadline, since this is getting more participation than I expected. Is the end of October agreeable? Y'all would have until midnight your time to submit an entry.

2006-10-02 [Askoga]: Whee for creative juices! You're very welcome, [La Divina]

2006-10-24 [Mister Saint]: Hi everyone! Um, [Askoga] is still adjusting to her new home, and she isn't able to access an internet connection with any real regularity. I just thought I'd let you all know, so you don't get the wrong impression of her. ^^

2006-10-26 [Askoga]: Whee! Thanks, Mister Saint. Yep, I still am sans 'net. Exciting, eh? Anyway, get your entries in, and I hope to be able to read and judge them all. How does the end of November sound for a deadline? Or would y'all prefer the end of October? I never did get a response about that... It'll take me a bit to get the results back to y'all, 'cause of my 'net problem, but at least then we have a deadline, hey? And I'm sure you all have patience enough. Promise I'll get the results in soon as I can after the deadline passes.

2006-11-11 [Kaimee]: I don't mind, end of Novembre suits me fine :)

2006-11-15 [Askoga]: Anyone else?

2006-11-15 [Mister Saint]: It works for me, too. *nods*

2006-11-15 [Askoga]: There's two! Can I hear a third one?

2006-11-15 [La Divina]: End of November! Whee!

2006-11-15 [Aeolynn]: I can't wait to see who wins!!!

2006-11-23 [Askoga]: Whoo! I have found a place where I can access the 'net, and I'm looking into getting 'net for my home, so I will deffinitely be able to get on and judge these on December first, so your deadline is, uhh....midnight November 30th (or any time before I manage to reach the internet on the first, 'cause I won't know the difference....). Good luck!

2006-11-24 [Askoga]: Those of you who didn't see, my latest blog says that I'll hopefully be back for real by mid-december! This means that if things go according to plan (mid-December is the longest it should possibly take), then I should be back online by the end of the month. Whoo!

2006-12-02 [Askoga]: Contest is now closed! I'm two days late, but can ya blame me (yeah, I bet you can....) I'll get to judging them, and have the results in asap!

As for the 'net thing...taking longer than I thought.

2006-12-02 [Askoga]: [Kaimee], your link leads to a blank page. Can you get me a link to the page you wanted me to go to?

2006-12-10 [Askoga]: Right-o, I think I found [Kaimee]'s entry (took me all of about a minute), but I'd like to have it verified, in case I was wrong. Thus, results will have to wait until such a time as my guess is verified and I am aware of said verification. Sorry, mates.

2006-12-10 [Askoga]: If it ends up taking up to Christmas, I'll just stick with judging the one I think it is (I'm pretty sure ^.^), and give y'all he results then, 'kay?

2006-12-10 [Mister Saint]: Works for me, it does. ^^

2006-12-10 [Askoga]: Yay!

2006-12-11 [Aeolynn]: I don't mind a bit!

2006-12-16 [Kaimee]: Sorry, that was an @wiki rather than @writings mistake ;)

2006-12-21 [Askoga]: Hee, don't worry about it too much. As I said, I found it pretty quickly, and it turns out it was the right one (so no more delay to me posting the results, yay!). The contest itself was a close call. Kaimee *almost* won, and I really, really wanted to make it a tie. But with only four entries....I couldn't justify making it a tie.

2006-12-21 [Mister Saint]: Congrats [La Divina]! You have the fish!

2006-12-21 [Askoga]: Yeah, congrats! I wish there had been more entries, 'cause these ones were so good

2006-12-24 [Kaimee]: That's ok, I think La Divina's is truly lovely as well, so I'm glad Tasha won ^^

2006-12-26 [La Divina]: Whee! *hands out victory cookies*

2007-01-02 [Askoga]: Cookies! -devours-
